Do kids listen?

Do kids listen?

I have only been a "Mom" for three years.  I enherited two adorable little boys in 2006.  I love them dearly.  But I do sometimes wonder if I am doing anything right.  I guess that's normal.

The hardest thing for me, is living with the fact that my boys don't listen.  Oh they are well behaved.  That's not my complaint.  I am so proud of them.  When we first got them, we couldn't even take them to the Sonic!  Now we can take them anywhere and we get complemented on how well they behave.

My gripe is,  when I ask them to do something,  they answer "Ok".  Yet they go about doing their own thing.  When I ask why they are not responding as I wished, The response is, "I didn't hear you."  But they answered "Ok."  Why on earth should I think they heard me?  I mean really!  Why should I think that response would mean they heard and were willing to comply?

Of course they don't always answer.  Sometimes they just stand there and look at me.  I want to press a button and say, "Testing! Testing!"

Thank goodness they are just six and eleven.  When they become teenagers I will probably be white headed and not sure if I asked them anything or not.

What  great revenge I will have then.  Only I might be too old to remember what it is I am happy about.
